Call to Action Alert - Tourism Funding
CALL TO ACTION FOR CHAMBER MEMBERS:
Pure Michigan Funding Support Needed by February 8th:
The Northern Michigan Regional Chamber Alliance representing over 5500 members from the Alpena, Benzie County, Cadillac, Charlevoix, Gaylord, Petoskey, and Traverse City Area Chambers of Commerce has identified tourism funding as one of its top priorities.
Why: Tourism means jobs for northern Michigan. Local tourist locations and businesses have been reporting an increase in out of state travelers this summer. They are attributing that increase specifically to “The Pure Michigan” Campaign. With the current financial situation for many businesses and individuals in this state, we need to use every avenue we have to promote business and create opportunities for visitors to spend money. All northern Michigan businesses benefit from tourist dollars spent in our communities.
The Situation: House Bill 4160 was introduced to raise the funding level for the Pure Michigan Campaign to $25 Million. It would pull $20 million from the 21st Century Jobs Fund and add it to the $5 million that is already in the budget.
What Can You Do: The Regional Chamber Alliance is asking for you to spend five minutes to join thousands of businesses across the state in support of funding "The Pure Michigan" Campaign. We need you to let state legislators know that the $20 million additional funding investment they make means customers in businesses across our region.

Businesses in Emmet County should contact Rep. Foster and businesses in Charlevoix County should contact Rep. MacMaster. While both are on record as supporting Pure Michigan funding, it is helpful to them to have communications from constituents that they can use to support their message.
