Harbor Springs Farmers Market

Harbor Springs offers their Harbor Springs Farmers Market on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm at 157 State St. in Downtown Harbor Springs. The market has about a dozen vendors who offer everything from eggs to greens, meats to pastas and more.

Harbor Springs Carriage Rides

Hop on board a Harbor Springs new Carriage Ride every weekend. Each Friday and Sunday, residents and visitors can take tour Harbor Springs by horse and carriage with this new, free of charge service. The idea for the free carriage rides came from BreknRidge Farms owner Karin Offield and is supported by downtown businesses. The carriage loads every 30 minutes near the Pier, New York, and Bar Harbor and also makes stops near Island Bean Coffee Company, Wooly Bugger, American Spoon Foods and Spice Harbor. Three tours are available: historical, waterfront, and downtown.

Winter Blues Festival 
February 20-25

The 4th annual Winter Blues Festival will be held Monday through Saturday, February 20 –25, 2012 in Downtown Petoskey.  Celebrate winter and beat the winter blues during the fun-filled events during the entire week.

We’ve added events during the day and evening throughout the week.  There’s something for everyone, and lots of fun for visitors to make Petoskey their destination for the President’s Day week. Here’s what you can participate in:

Monday, February 20 – New Event! Kids Day Downtown, 10am to 4pm.  Children and parents are welcome on this holiday (President’s Day) to visit participating stores and enjoy games, puzzles, activities, arts and crafts, story time and more. 

Monday, February 20 - Snowman Building Contest, noon to 1:30 pm. Pennsylvania Park. Families, children, adults are all invited to come to Pennsylvania Park on Monday, February 20 to create a Winter Blues Festival snow sculpture.  It can be your basic snowman, or woman, have a theme - let your creativity and shovels do their thing. Contestants (teams allowed) will have one hour to complete their entry.  Judging will take place at 1:15 pm with prizes awarded at 1:30 pm.  Snow creations will be judged on creativity and originality and the best sculpture will win first prize. A second prize will be given for the entry that most closely relates to the Winter Blues Festival theme.  Sponsored by the YMCA of Northern Michigan and Bearcub Outfitters.

Monday, February 20 – Pro-Am Hot Dish Cookoff.  This event, now in its fourth year, will be at Mackinaw Trail Winery from 5-6:30 pm.  Judging by the public will take place from 5-6pm, with decisions and prizes from 6-6:30 pm.  Restaurants will compete in the professional category, and individuals in the amateur category.  Cost to judge is $5 and proceeds will go to Manna Food Project.

Tuesday, February 21 – New Event! Pamper the Blues Away.  A day featuring all of our downtown salons. 10am to 4pm. Visitors and residents can receive great new services and be pampered all day.

Tuesday, February 21 - 7:30 pm at the City Park Grill, 432 E. Lake Street.  Petoskey’s Got Talent. You must be 18 years old to enter. Contestants can enter as individuals or groups. Semifinals at 7:30 pm. Finals at 9:30 pm. You must register in advance. Registration forms online.

Wednesday, February 22 – Wonder Wednesday – 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Businesses in the Downtown area will be conducting lectures, hands-on workshops, demonstrations and more on this reincarnation of Petoskey’s Wonder Weekend.  Want to learn how to conduct a wine-tasting, or make award-winning chocolate cookies.  How about mixology, or how to knit? You can learn it all during Wonder Wednesday.

Wednesday, February 22 -  New event! Ghost Walk – 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person for this walking tour through Downtown Petoskey.  Learn all about the ghosts and ghoulies that inhabit our Downtown businesses.  Call 231-622-8501 to reserve your tickets.

Thursday, February 23 10am to 6pm – Chocoholic Frolic. Join the Chocoholic Frolic anytime between 10am and 6pm.  Pick up your scorecard at the Downtown Offices, 216 Park Avenue, or participating stores, and visit the Downtown businesses that will offer samples of chocolate. Complete your card for a chance to win a great prize.

Thursday, February 23 -  New event! Blue’s Brews – a pub crawl throughout Downtown Petoskey. Times, details and locations to be announced.

Friday, February 24 – 10am to 2pm – New event! – Dress Blues – a progressive fashion show throughout Downtown stores.  Live mannequins show off the latest “blue” fashions.  Shoppers can pick up a card listing the participating stores and times for models.

Friday, February 24 – 7 pm – Stafford’s Perry Hotel – New event! The Fur Ball, an evening of music, food and fun, supporting the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society. Details to come.

Saturday, February 25 – Chase the Blues 5KFun Run/Walk – Runners and walkers are invited to chase away the winter blues in a Fun Run/Walk at 8:30 am. Starting line-up is at the gazebo in Pennsylvania Park.  Course maps and registration forms can be found online. Participants will receive a blue hat, and food and water will be provided along the way.  Entry fee is a donation of hats, gloves, mittens, scarves or blankets for the Community Free Clinic. 

Saturday, February 25 – 10 a.m. on – There will be a chess tournament, historic walking tours, and a 20 questions game for the whole family.

Saturday, February 25 – 6 pm. Whine and Dine - 3rd annual Whine and Dine, a progressive dinner on Friday, at 6:00 p.m.  Cost is $45 per person.  Make your reservations early by calling 231-622-8501.

Little Traverse Bay Humane Society Fur Ball Blues Benefit

Dance the winter blues away at the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society Fur Ball Blues Benefit. The benefit will take place in conjunction with the Petoskey Winter Blues Festival. The Fur Ball Blues Benefit will take place from 7-11 pm on Friday, February 24, 2012, at Stafford’s Perry Hotel in Petoskey. Attendees will enjoy music by Jelly Roll Blues Band, hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar. Attire is dressy casual. The cost to participate is $35 per person. Tickets can be purchased at Bearcub Outfitters, Finishing Touch, Little Traverse Bay Humane Society, Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce, Flatiron Deli, and Stafford’s Perry Hotel.
