Jim Ribby and Poetry from the Civil War
March 26th, 2012
Office: Cultural/Art Event
Time: 7pm
Location: Carnegie Building, 451 E. Mitchell St., Petoskey
Alden, Michigan resident Jim Ribby will be sharing and reciting poetry written by Civil War soldiers and civilians from the beginning of the war until its resolution. After watching the Ken Burns Civil War documentary, Ribby got the idea of giving live performances reciting poems from the Civil War era.  “This is a very ancient form of entertainment and a truly unique way of presenting a very significant period of our history.  The listener will hear the language used in that era and feel the emotions that the conflict generated.  In my opinion, said Ribby, “it is a way to see the war through the eyes of those who witnessed it”.This program is sponsored by the Petoskey District Library and the Friends of the Library.
