Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra - Flute Choir

The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra Sunday Series of Chamber Music Concerts begins the 2012 - 2013 season with the Northern Michigan Flute Choir performing at the Congregational Church of Charlevoix, August 5th at 4:00 p.m. The Northern Michigan Flute Choir comprises eight flutists with a wide range of experiences from playing in professional orchestras to college flute teaching, public schools, and private studios. Dr. Ed Bahr of East Jordan joins the ensemble as conductor. Dr. Bahr is Professor Emeritus of Music at Delta State University in Cleveland, MS.
The program on Sunday's concert will include a "Celtic Suite" by Michael Coolen, and Bill Holcombe's "Super Flutes Jazz Suite" number "Fly Away." The ensemble commissioned "Fantasy 'On Eagle's Wings'" by Fr. Michael Joncas which is dedicated to the memory of charter member, Nancy Schoensee.
All the members of the ensemble have performed professionally and are currently members of regional organizations including the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, Gaylord Chamber Orchestra, Straits Area Concert Band, Charlevoix City Band, Kalamazoo Concert Band and Encore Wind Symphony. Members include Ann Bahr (East Jordan), Bonnietta Benn (Petoskey), Wendy Patton Leino (Mackinaw City), Debbie McKeon, (Williamsburg), Grace Olson (Gaylord), Suzanne Parker, (Traverse City), Cidney Roth (Mackinaw City), and Gwen Sarya (Charlevoix).
