Leadership Little Traverse Schedule
Requirements for Leadership Little Traverse include attendance at nine dynamic, interactive all-day sessions; participation in an ongoing mentorship program; and in a class-wide community service project.
Schedule for all sessions:
- 8:00 to 8:30 am - Continental Breakfast
- 8:30 to 12:00 pm - Morning Session
- 12:00 to 1:00 pm - Lunch
- 1:00 to 4:30 pm - Afternoon Session
Session 1 - Together Everyone Accomplishes More
September 7-8, 2011
Get to know your team as we gather for an evening cookout at Camp Daggett on September 7, where you'll spend the night and then wake up to a day of FUN and learning. Challenge By Choice will be the order of the day as you participate in activities designed to develop teamwork, build trust, enhance personal growth, and discuss how these activities can apply to your daily life.
Session 2 - The ABC's of Local Government
October 13, 2011
Learn about local governments and boards (both elected and appointed) and the court system. How do they interact to affect public policy in the Little Traverse region? Techniques for group decision-making and group facilitation will be discussed.
Session 3 - The Past, The Present, The Future...And You!
November 10, 2011
We'll take a look at the history of the Little Traverse region. After a look back, we will then create a vision for the future of our area. Then we'll look at our personal leadership styles to see how we can help shape that vision.
Session 4 - Education is the Key
December 8, 2011
Explore the wealth of educational opportunities within the community. Formal, informal, and non-traditional educational institutions will be examined and discussed. Participants will also practice presentation skills.
Session 5 - Lending A Helping Hand
January 12, 2012
This session explores some of the more critical human/social needs currently facing Emmet County individuals and families. The existing network of private and public health and human services agencies will be described, along with the variety of help and assistance that is available when people need it most.
Session 6 - The Economy
February 9, 2012
You'll learn about the many factors that contribute to the economic health of the Little Traverse Bay region. You'll experience first-hand a local manufacturing facility and will explore the economic impact of the resort and tourism industries.
Session 7 - Creativity & Ethics

Tap into your creativity as it relates to leadership, and learn the importance of understanding your "essence". See things in a new way, expand your thinking and learn problem-solving techniques. In the second part of the day, you'll enhance your decision making skills by identifying and clarifying personal values and applying those values to make ethical decisions.
Session 8 - Our Environment

Northern Michigan's Great Lakes shoreline, inland lakes, rivers, forests, and farms are important to our quality of life and the vigor of our economy. We'll spend the day in the outdoors seeing first-hand how science, politics, economics and social justice all play a role in the environmental balance.
Session 9 - Where Do We Go From Here?

Participants will re-examine their leadership strengths and develop an action plan for the future and will present that plan at the final session.
