What is a Petoskey Regional Young Professional? A Petoskey Regional Young Professional (PRYP) is a resident of the Petoskey area that is looking for a better connection with their community, whether it is the community that they live in or their business community. They may also be young professionals that are looking for personal and professional growth.
How do you define "Young Professional"? You'll find young professionals from all walks of life in this group. We may be office workers, contractors, painters, musicians, bankers, insurance agents, writers, and everything in between. If you attend one of our events, it would not be out of place to see a few suits, as well as work boots and jeans. Wondering how young is young? Our membership tends to fall between 21 and 40ish.
Who can be a Petoskey Regional Young Professional? Anyone young professional living and working in Petoskey and the surrounding areas can be a PRYP. Your business' membership with the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce gets you a special deal on pricing. We've also extended this deal to your spouses and significant others. If your business is not yet a chamber member, we'd still love to have you, but you will see that your membership fee is slightly higher.
What kind of events will the PRYP have? Our events are based on our three-fold vision of "Bettering Ourselves, Our Trades and Our Communities". The three basic types of events are: Learning Sessions, Networking Events, and Volunteer Opportunities.
Learning Sessions: Don't take the Learning Sessions too seriously. While we will be offering many sessions on personal and professional growth, you'll see a liberal amount of fun topics covered by this series. Some topics include:
- Making the most of online social networking for your business and career
- Wine tastings
- How to create a "green" working environment
- How to live a balanced life
- Networking tips
- Working in multi-generational environments
- Golf lessons
- History of the Petoskey Region
Networking Events: These are our big social opportunities - meet and greet other Young Professionals. These events include:
- Happy Hours
- Sporting Events
- Bowling Nights
- Field Trips - snowshoeing, skiing, kayaking
Volunteer Opportunities: One of the best ways to connect with your community is through volunteering. We can help you find that volunteering opportunity that fits you best and build a team to participate in events/workbees.
Do I have to participate in all of the events that are offered? No, you can pick and choose the events that you would like to attend. Some people will choose to participate in just the learning opportunities; some will be looking for just social interaction. It's your choice. There are some advantages to attend a lot of events though...
How much does it cost to be a PRYP? The cost for participation is pretty minimal. A year of membership is just $25 for members of the PRCC, their spouses, and signficant others. If your business is not yet a member, your yearly dues will be only $40.
Some of our events will have a small participation fee, which will be all-inclusive. Others will be included in your membership. If you haven't paid dues to the PRYP, you can still participate - you just won't be able to take advantage of the discounted prices.

PRYP Bowling Night
Friday, April 24 - 5 to 8 pm
Northern Lights Recreation Center
We will be kicking things off with a Bowling Night! Join us at Northern Lights Recreation Center, 8865 Harbor-Petoskey Rd, Harbor Springs on Friday, April 24 from 5 to 8 pm. Your price of admission includes pizza, soda, shoe rental and one hour of bowling scramble. You'll get a chance to introduce yourself, your business, and see what we have planned for the upcoming year.

PRYP Wine Tasting
Monday, May 4 - 6 to 7:30 pm
Symons General Store, Downtown Petoskey
A wine representative will be on-site to teach us the basics of how to become a wine connoisseur...swirling, colors, odors, and how to serve wine for every occassion.
Cost is $10 per person for wine & cheese, and Symons is generously offering a 20% disount on wine purchases that night.
